No one could communicate pure pleasure like Toots Hibbert.
No one.
Reggae has given us voices of hope (Bob Marley, Hugh Mundell), faith (Bunny Wailer, Ijahman, Jimmy Cliff, Marley again), righteous anger (Peter Tosh), conditional and unconditional love (Gregory Isaacs, Leroy Sibbles of The Heptones, Marley once more), but no one could communicate the sheer joy of being alive, the possibility of what’s just around the corner like Toots. It’s nearly impossible to listen to “Sweet And Dandy” without sharing in his wild upfulness, the sense of mad pleasure and freedom.
All respect. All love. All joy.
