Suzan Woodruff is one of the most original of L.A.'s abstract painters. Collected by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, her work recently appeared on the cover of ArtWeek. A true original, Woodruff grew up hiking and riding her dirt bike in the Sonoran desert outside Phoenix as a girl living with her gold prospector grandparents. Her work has been compared to Mark Rothko and J.W.M. Turner. Art critic Shana Nys Dambrot called her the spiritual and art historical heir to Joan Mitchell, Marina Abramovic, and Georgia O'Keefe, "not because she borrows their craft or methods, but because of her use of earth, air and fire" and "the totemic, pagan magic of her paintings." <br><br>Her large paintings sell for $20,000 and up; this is one of her rare smaller works, 16" by 16" acrylic on canvas.
